Catherine Behan is a sculptor working in fabrication, model making, wearables, and tech.
Cat graduated with a dual-degree in Sculpture and Art & Technology from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. During her time in Chicago she founded an underground arts space, known as Hotel Kafka, which was a venue for experimental music, visual art, film, performance, and theatre. The Hotel Kafka, was an underground artist community and collective that was active for over a decade starting in the mid-nineties.
After moving to New York City, Cat became heavily involved in sculpture, working as a fine art fabricator for a studio that built exclusively for blue chip artists and specializing in large works destined for museums and collectors.
In 2016, after the birth of her daughter Arcadia, Cat opened a small studio in Greenpoint, Brooklyn and began to focus on small wearable metalworks.
Last year a new project began called The Passenger. It was born as a pop up storefront in Bushwick, Brooklyn and now continues as an artistic practice coming online very soon. The Passenger, named after the Iggy Pop song, was a community oriented concept shop carrying artist books, prints, adornments and wearables.
